I liked this post on The Billfold on small things for which we'll pay (or pay more).

At this moment, my life is—

Too short to not pay for:

  • Bikes and subsequent repairs
  • Infrequent, but “real,” haircuts from my stylist
  • Tailoring/hemming
  • My own tab, plus tip
  • Framing of posters I’d really like to save
  • Vegetables from the Mount Pleasant farmers market
  • An Internet connection
  • Trains to New York (get yrself an Amtrak credit card)
  • Pedicures

Life’s too long to pay for:

  • A car
  • Makeup
  • Clothes that aren’t on sale
  • A cup of coffee
  • Holiday decorations/getups
  • Meat that I won’t get around to cooking at home
  • Anything related to a TV
  • Bus rides and the subsequent time investment
  • Manicures
