there’s apparently a place called Marx Cafe (“revolutionary cuisine”) in mt. pleasant and it seems like the epitome of bourgeois (big surprise). it’s a goofy sports bar with expensive wines. i was hoping it would be like a DC analog of Red Emma’s in baltimore.

Name is stupid, food is mediocre, DJ nights are good, half-price wine night is even better, that I don’t have to run into a long parade of people I’ve slept with/that it is not The Raven is the best so, like, Marx is basically my favorite neighborhood bar

for one of my final projects, I have to make a website that implements a database. I am making a crime database where the user can report crime and it adds it to a list of already existing crime. it’s not really like, compatible for IRL because I have it so you can like, report your own homicide and I don’t know why anyone would report a crime to a website before 911 but you know, grad school isn’t really compatible for IRL so whatev.

anyway, once I imported the existing DC crime data to the database, I was like “well, that’s enough actual work” and for the past two hours I have been working a header for said website. the header contains an image of crime mcgruff and obviously says to “take a bite out of crime.”

the only audience of this website is my professor from China who is not really good at the whole speaking english thing. like sometimes she’ll start saying something and try to find the right word, but she can’t find the right word, so she just stops her sentence, mid-way. it’s a really great learning environment. anyway, this means the odds of her knowing mcgruff the crime dog is an actual thing around -9%. has that stopped me from spending an ungodly amount of my limited time for this project on a mcgruff the crime dog header? no. not it has not.

for added pizazz, I added a chevron background. you know, to give my website that added professionalism.

This month is just terrible because I had/have an entire semester’s worth of work due, a final, three major work events all about two weeks apart, lots of travel, crazy anxiety attacks, and the resulting fallout of all of that, which has mostly manifested itself in having to explain why all I can talk about is how much my job sucks and how much grad school sucks and why I am basically crying all the time.

I have decided that the best way to deal with my problems is to try to buy myself happiness. I am mostly interested in purchasing bikes, fancy dinners, therapy sessions, registrations for centuries, and this tank top.
